Beber, Teasdale & Tolkien
“The Riddle Game” (Cold Duck poetic mashup)
A little whimsy of mine—here I slowed a midtempo track by Beber & Teasdale down to an amble, then overdubbed J. R. R. Tolkien reading from “The Hobbit.”

Lucille Clifton meets Brian Eno & Inner Life
“The Cruel Inner Eno” (Cold Duck poetic mashup)
A mashup of Lucille Clifton reading her wonderful poem “Cruelty,” set to beats from Inner Life’s “I’m Caught Up” and melodies from portions of two tracks from Eno’s 77Million album. This was actually slightly popular among italian users of SoundCloud back when I the track posted there. Proof, I feel, that Italy likes its disco somewhat demented (like most of Benny Benassi’s productions).

Joan Armatrading meets Alucard
“Save Me (When Two Hearts Collide)” (Cold Duck mashup)
I got the idea for this mix watching the penultimate episode of “Oz,” which makes extremely effective use of the old folk song by Armatrading. But I wanted an update (of course), so here I take the vocals from Armatrading’s original and dub then over an instrumental trance track by Alucard.

Roger Goode featuring Dylan Thomas & Tasha Baxter
“(To Begin) In The Beginning” (Cold Duck poetic mashup)
A mashup I made of Dylan Thomas reading from his “Under Milkwood” set to the Gabriel & Dresden dub mix of “In The Beginning” by Roger Goode & Tasha Baxter.

Allen ‘n’ Mike
“A Spooky Supermarket” (Cold Duck poetic mashup)
A mashup I made of Allen Ginsberg reading his “A Supermarket In California” set to Mike Vandenberg’s instrumental trance number, “Spooky.”

Oakenfold featuring Eddie Arnold
“Save The Last Smoke For Me” (Cold Duck mashup)
Here I overdub portions of various cigarette ads from long, long ago onto a music bed fashioned out of Paul Oakenfold’s “Save The Last Trance For Me.” Some of the ads feature country music legend Eddie Arnold hawking the joys of tobacco. I was unable to finish this mix for a long time, but then a certain bookstore canned my sad ass after a decade of hard work, and I quit smoking the same day. Within a week I’d finished this ode to a habit long gone by….

Madonna & Public Enemy featuring Melvin B. Tolson
“A Broken Phonograph” (Cold Duck poetic mashup)
A mashup I did of “Justify My Love,” the Public Enemy track which Lenny Kravitz used as backing beats for the Madonna song, and a poem by Melvin B. Tolson.
