Many of the original posts you will find here are remixes, re-edits and original pieces of music I have done over the years. I’ve loved the 12″ and CD single for as long as I can remember, and the alternate versions posted here are works of love, seeking to prolong the joy of the original. My reworks exist only for the fun of it, although fun can be quite potent.

My professional background includes a Ph.D. in History (my dissertation dealt with Chile in the nineteenth century), a M.A. in International Studies (thesis on world music and copyright), several years broadcasting at non-commercial radio stations and retailing music, as well as a scary summer of DJing at weddings and middle school parties.

P.S.

All of my mixes and re-edits were made possible by the perceptive generosity of Dante Corbitt, who gave me a copy of MixMeister years ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize just how special a gift it was until after we lost Dante, so really this site is as much in his honor as anyone else’s.

“Just Teardrops To Me” (Cold Duck’s S.O.S. Band Pass)

One day I was listening to The xx and it suddenly sounded like they’d sampled “Just Be Good To Me” by the S.O.S. Band to create backing beats for their version of “Teardrops.” I decided to try a mash-up of the two songs, but quickly discovered that the drum patterns of the two are quite different, even though they have a similar timbre. So, I rearranged the beats in “Just” so they’d fit “Teardrops,” pulled some handclaps and a synth swell out of the S.O.S. Band’s track as well, and dubbed all this into “Teardrops.” Re-sample and process parts of The xx and, boom!, a nice dubby remix of “Teardrops.” [“Teardrops” was written and originally performed by Womack & Womack.]
